Why the name 'New View'?
When God took on flesh, came to earth and moved into the neighborhood he gave us a completely NEW VIEW of life, church, religion, faith and self. Let's examine this a bit:
In Matthew, chapter five, Jesus repeatedly says “You have heard it said, but I say to you…” As he taught, Jesus showed that the true view of life is not through outward motions and religiosity but a heart devoted to God. Jesus took a relational view instead of a religious view.
Jesus consistently turned the selfish view of life upside down. He gave his followers a New View when he told them that life is not about living for oneself but for others. “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.” (Luke 9:24)
The Bible says that we are to anticipate a New View of life as Jesus continues to work in us and as we go to be with Him. “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12)
Here Paul points our eyes to the incredible life awaiting for us in Heaven. Although with Jesus, we have the right view on life now, in heaven we will have a New View which will make all of life come into fullness.
The earliest followers of Jesus remind us not to be focused on the problems, successes and issues of this life. Our view should not be centered on this world’s cares. We should have a New View that focuses our eyes on God’s priorities.
“Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world..”
(1 Pet 2:11)
“Set your hearts… minds on things above, not on earthly things”
(Col 3:1-2)
What view do you see life through? Is it your perspective? How do you see the church? As a simply an hour on Sunday? As a place that is fake? How do perceive life? Through your needs? Jesus comes and as we listen to Him, as we read the Bible, Jesus changes the perspective on church and life.
